The Cleveland Browns may have lost out on Bill Cowher, but another former head coach could be coming their way.
The Browns have announced that they plan to interview Eric Mangini, who was just fired as head coach of the New York Jets.
Mangini was fired after just three seasons with the Jets and became the fall guy for their late season swoon.
However, he is a young coach who showed some promise with the Jets and comes from Bill Belichick.
Of course, Belichick was a head coach for the Browns back in the day before he was terminated partly because of his inability to handle the press. |

The New York Jets have added Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan to their coaching search list.
Ryans name has emerged the past couple of seasons as a potential head coach, but he has been unable to land a job.
He was among those interviewed last year for the Ravens coaching vacancy only to finish in third place.
However, the team was so happy with the job he had done that he was invited back as part of John Harbaughs coaching staff.
Ryan is loved by the defensive players and has helped guide the team to one of the best units in the league year in and year out. |

The Cleveland Browns want New England Patriots vice president Scott Pioli as their new general manager.
After Bill Cowher turned the Browns down, they immediately turned their attention to Pioli.
The two sides had met and the Browns supposedly gave Pioli a Thursday deadline to make a decision, but no announcement has yet been made.
Piolis first choice to replace Romeo Crennel as head coach appears to be Iowas Kirk Ferentz, who has spent time in the NFL previously.
It has been reported that Pioli made impossible demands of Cleveland in the meeting, leaving some to believe he really doesnt want to leave the Patriots. |

The Arizona Diamondbacks have given catcher Chris Snyder a three-year contract extension worth $14.25 million.
The deal also includes a club option for a fourth season, bringing the total worth of the contract to $20 million.
General manager Josh Byrnes said that the deal will allow the team to continue to keep its core group of players together.
The 27-year old catcher isnt a great offensive player but is noted for his near flawless work behind the plate.
He did not commit an error last season and has mishandled just one chance in the past two years. |

New York Jets quarterback Brett Favres MRI has revealed a tear in his right biceps that has affected his arm strength.
The good news is that no major surgery is needed. The bad news is that arthroscopic surgery is necessary.
Doctors are very optimistic that surgery on the right biceps will cure all that ails Favres golden arm.
Favre has stated that he will take the next several weeks to sit down and make a decision on whether or not he will return next year.
He had already said that a return would be highly unlikely if major surgery on his arm was needed. |

The Cleveland Browns ended the season in fitting fashion by failing to put any points on the board in a 31-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Browns hung surprisingly tough against Pittsburgh in the early going thanks to a strong defensive effort.
However, the defense eventually wore down and probably quit considering how poorly their offense was playing.
Running back Jamal Lewis was the lone highlight of the day, rushing for 94 yards on 23 carries.
The Browns promptly fired general manager Phil Savage after the game and later head coach Romeo Crennel. |

The Maryland Terrapins used a raucous Comcast Center crowd to rally past UNC Charlotte, 85-75.
The Terps fell behind by as much as 11 in the first half and looked eerily similar to the team we saw last year.
However, it seemed that the Terps showed more poise and were in better shape than last season and simply wore Charlotte down.
The Terps had their usual issues defending the three-point shot, especially in the first half. They also had problems with Charlottes size.
Still, give Maryland a lot of credit for fighting back and taking command of the game in the second half. These are the types of games you have to win to get into the NCAA tournament. |

The New Orleans Saints rallied from a big deficit to take the lead before giving it up late in a 33-31 loss to the Carolina Panthers.
Quarterback Drew Brees had a monster game, throwing for 386 yards and four touchdowns with just one interception.
However, Brees came up just a few yards short of breaking Dan Marinos record for most passing yards in a single season.
Wide receiver Marques Colston had 123 yards and a touchdown while fellow wideout Lance Moore finished with 91 yards and two touchdowns.
The Saints gave up the game-winning, 42-yard field goal with just seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. |

The Giants lost on a last-second field goal to the Minnesota Vikings in their season finale, 20-19.
It all had no real meaning for the Giants, who were already locked into the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
The Giants played nearly all of their starters in the first half but ended up sitting many of them in the second half.
Surprisingly, the Giants reserves more than held their own and almost still managed to win the game against a desperate Minnesota team.
The only negative to come out of the game was a season-ending ankle injury to veteran cornerback Sam Madison. |

The Tennessee Titans were shut out by the Indianapolis Colts, 23-0, in their season finale.
It was a meaningless game for both teams, as the Titans had already clinched the No. 1 seed and the Colts the No. 5 seed in the AFC.
Neither team played their starters for long, but the victory is still a nice momentum builder for the Colts.
It did give the Titans the opportunity to get backup quarterback Vince Young on the field for game action.
There are rumors that Young may be featured in the offense as part of the copycat formation called the Wildcat run by the Miami Dolphins. |
