The Orioles have long claimed one of the top places in the American League Eastern Division. With lots of visits to the postseason, there is a long standard of excellence. The Orioles have won nine AL East titles and three wild-card berths. Their most recent playoff appearance was in 2016. From 1964 to 1983 the Orioles won six AL pennants and three World Series Championships. The last one was in 1983. Four franchise favorites: Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Boog Powell, and Cal Ripkin, Jr., brought home AL MVP Awards. Today fans pack the Yard to see Manny Machado, Mark Trumbo, Chris Davis, and Adam Jones hit the ball. The pitching staff isn’t too shabby either and features Chris Tillman and closer Zach Britton.
The Orioles were founded in 1894
The Orioles were founded in 1894 as the Milwaukee Brewers. After this, they moved to St. Louis where they played as the Browns for 52 years. Finally, in 1954, they relocated to Baltimore. Their original stadium, Memorial Stadium, was located in the heart of the city.
The Orioles Moved 1992
In 1992 they moved into their new home Oriole Park at Camden Yards. It was in Baltimore that the team came together and prospered. Baseball legends such as Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Cal Ripkin Jr., and Eddie Murray have enthralled spectators. Others such as Luis Aparicio, Roberto Alomar, Albert Bell, Jim Palmer, Scotty McGregor have also worn the Orioles uniform. The Orioles greatest year was 1971 when they again went to the World Series. They fell in game 7 to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Four Orioles pitchers Dave McNally, Mike Cuellar, Jim Palmer, and Pat Dobson all won 20 games. This has never been replicated in baseball since then.
